Solar village model
PROJECT OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Our proven strategy has five objectives: conducting a community needs assessment, custom system design and component sourcing, expertized project implementation, detailed training on all levels of implementation, and focused operations and maintenance planning.
OBJECTIVE ONE: COMMUNITY NEEDS ASSESSMENT
To initiative the project, All We Are leads members of the target community as well as the local partner in a community needs assessment to identify high-potential opportunities that would catalyze broad-based improvements to education and healthcare.
OBJECTIVE TWO: CUSTOM SYSTEM DESIGN AND SOURCING
All We Are’s team of engineers design the solar systems. This team considers every aspect of design to ensure the school is properly equipped with a solar system that is both safe and effective while meeting the school’s energy requirements. Our track record is proof of this.
In line with the Ugandan Government’s “Buy Uganda Build Uganda” initiative, All We Are procures all solar components in-country to ensure that the organization is putting money into the local economy. Solar suppliers have been carefully vetted to maintain a high product quality level as well as warranty support for all components.
OBJECTIVE THREE: ORGANIZATION’S EXPERTISE IN IMPLEMENTATION
All We Are’s Ugandan team manages and monitors all solar work on the ground from technical assessments, installations, and site inspections. This team has been actively working in this capacity since 2015. The team has grown from one Country Director in 2015 to a team of eight electricians today that have personally installed 24 solar systems throughout the country.
Working with a local team is aligned with the organization’s mission to adhere project focus to what is most sustainable and effective. This local team is ready and available for installations as our organization scales and can be dispatched at moment's notice to troubleshoot and resolve system issues. Their attention to detail have been key in keeping our system’s operational and schools satisfied.
OBJECTIVE FOUR: DETAILED TRAINING ON ALL LEVELS OF IMPLEMENTATION
Continuous training is conducted and administered for All We Are’s Ugandan team.
Our organization has a comprehensive training curriculum that is administered to the local partner and the host community. These documents include the creation of solar user committees which must be 50% female at each installation site as well as training manuals and documentation.
OBJECTIVE FIVE: OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE
All We Are acts as the primary project financer and works with the local partner to determine the amount of the project cost that the community is responsible to pay in term-based payments over the course of the first year of system use. Schools are required to make annual sustainability payments that ensure the longevity of the systems and to create transactional value in the relationship.
